Every year my wife and I pick a new spot in Latin America to explore because our families actually came from those sides. Folks on my side're originally from Venezuela and her family's from Guatemala so we'll always feel that heavy pull toward our heritage. This time around we've finally settled on Peru for our big summer trip. We definitely want to hit the beaches for a few days but the main goal's to drive around the country and see all the cool historic spots. What're the absolute must-see locations out there? We also need to find a dependable vehicle for the trip so any tips on where to score a good ride'll be awesome.

Trips connected to family heritage always turn out completely different from standard resort holidays. The Sacred Valley near Cusco has some insane ancient ruins scattered all over the place. A trip south towards Arequipa reveals these massive canyons that look completely surreal in person. The roads winding through the Andes get incredibly steep and narrow as you climb higher. The coastal highway runs pretty smooth but the mountain routes demand total focus from the driver.

Those steep mountain routes really test a driver when the asphalt randomly turns into loose gravel. The tight switchbacks near the canyons take serious concentration even in good weather. You can rent a car in Peru right here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/peru . The site connects you directly with local owners across different regions. The search filters let you select a vehicle with enough power to comfortably handle those massive inclines.
