Migrating from Exchange 2016 or 2019 to Microsoft 365 requires careful planning to avoid data loss and downtime. Start by assessing your existing Exchange environment, including server health, mailbox sizes, and dependencies. Review mailboxes and data to identify what needs migration and remove unnecessary items beforehand. Prepare your Microsoft 365 tenant by configuring domains, licenses, and security settings. Verify user accounts and permissions to ensure smooth access after migration. Always create backups of critical mailbox data before starting, as a safety measure against unexpected issues.

Run a test migration with a small batch of mailboxes to identify potential errors early. Once results look satisfactory, proceed with moving the full mailbox data, keeping track of progress and errors throughout. After migration, validate mailbox items, folders, and permissions to confirm accuracy. Continue monitoring the environment for a few weeks to catch any sync or connectivity issues.

Tools like Shoviv Exchange Migration Software can simplify this process significantly, offering secure, efficient batch migration with detailed reporting, making the transition to Microsoft 365 smoother and more reliable for IT teams.
