I’m Georgia, and I’m the Community Officer at the Open Preservation Foundation.</p>
<p dir="auto">Through the forum we will talk through the tasks, and say a bit more about the logistics of the hackathon. We thought this to be the most communicative medium. The purpose of the community forum is to bring participants together to find others to work with, report on progress and ask questions - regardless of your time zone <img src="https://community.openpreservation.org/assets/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f550.png?v=lcafig7ufm0" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji--clock1" title=":clock1:" alt="🕐" /> . It is our hope that this forum will build steadily, and helpfully and grow as a resource to support you throughout the hackathon.</p>
<p dir="auto"><strong>Please click the 'categories' icon above to get started!</strong> Or follow <a href="https://community.openpreservation.org/categories">this link</a>.</p>
<p dir="auto">This is our biggest online hack event to date! Please refer to <a href="https://openpreservation.org/events/opf-hackathon-2023/?q=8164" rel="nofollow ugc">our events page</a> for a more succinct overview. Our aims here are four-fold:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p dir="auto">Help people in the DP community acquire the skills they need to contribute to OPF projects <img src="https://community.openpreservation.org/assets/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f4d1.png?v=lcafig7ufm0" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji--bookmark_tabs" title=":bookmark_tabs:" alt="📑" /> .</p>
</li>
<li>
<p dir="auto">Offer help and tutorials for OPF software users and contributors.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p dir="auto">Produce/improve the collateral resources for OPF projects, e.g. documentation and websites <img src="https://community.openpreservation.org/assets/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f4bb.png?v=lcafig7ufm0" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji--computer" title=":computer:" alt="💻" /> .</p>
</li>
<li>
<p dir="auto">Improve the overall quality of OPF software.</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p dir="auto">Please see our Technical Lead, Carl Wilson’s <a href="https://openpreservation.org/blogs/hacking-makes-you-lose-ctrl-the-return-of-the-opf-hackathon/?q=1" rel="nofollow ugc">blog</a> as to why we have decided to host a ‘low &amp; slow’ hackathon over this sweltering British summer.</p>
<p dir="auto">If you’re unsure or stuck, we encourage you to ask your questions here <img src="https://community.openpreservation.org/assets/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f46c.png?v=lcafig7ufm0" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji--two_men_holding_hands" title=":two_men_holding_hands:" alt="👬" /> . If you’re a digital preservation veteran, we encourage you to answer them if you know the answers! <img src="https://community.openpreservation.org/assets/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f46b.png?v=lcafig7ufm0" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji--couple" title=":couple:" alt="👫" /></p>
<p dir="auto">We hope that being here brings you a warm tingle of anticipation, but if it makes you nervous and panicky please be reassured that we have the resources to help you! Over the course of the summer we will be running introductory webinars to help you get to grips with GitHub, terminology, and processes. We hope that this community forum will assist with all other nerves. We encourage you to explore <a href="https://community.openpreservation.org/category/2/welcome-to-the-digital-preservation-community">our section, welcoming you to the digital preservation community</a>, which we hope over the course of this summer will fill with resources and guidance from our community.</p>
<p dir="auto">Throughout, we’ll also be listening to you and will cover ad-hoc topics if there is enough interest among the attendees. Please let us know on <a href="mailto:info@openpreservation.org" rel="nofollow ugc">info@openpreservation.org</a> if there is something you would specifically like to know more about.</p>
<p dir="auto">Thank you to everyone who has taken part, advised, and contributed. We appreciate your time and efforts. It goes without saying to please be polite to one another in this space. Please refer to our <a href="https://openpreservation.org/terms-of-use/" rel="nofollow ugc">code of conduct</a> if required.</p>
<p dir="auto">Good luck, and have fun!</p>
