One thing I am considering is above garage door storage. The area above the garage door seems ideal for storing items that are only needed occasionally. Has anyone installed storage in this particular location? I am wondering how much clearance is normally required for the garage door to operate properly.

I have also seen garage ceiling racks that use the ceiling area for boxes and equipment. Are these racks difficult to install if the garage has a standard residential ceiling? I would prefer something secure enough for heavier storage containers rather than a system intended only for lightweight items.
